The British Parking Association is the leading association for the parking sector and at the forefront of research and technological innovation, determined to help create a cleaner, safer and less congested world where everyone can move around freely and easily. Each day millions of vehicles make journeys that begin and end in parking and we want these journeys to be seamless, whatever the mode of transport, and the parking experience to be memorably stress-free and efficient.

We are delighted to support the Parking (Code of Practice) Act which achieved royal assent in 2019 following Sir Greg Knight’s private members' bill. The Act addresses concerns around the management of private parking, something we have lobbied for over ten years. In 2007 we introduced the first industry code of practice and have worked closely with government and other stakeholders, including landowners, parking operators and consumer groups, to call for a single mandatory code, single appeals service and standards body. We are committed to raising standards and ensuring our members deliver the best possible service.

Our members’ ability and willingness to adapt and innovate with market-leading products is supported by a desire to improve everyone’s parking experience and as an association, it’s vital that we continue to listen, engage and communicate effectively with everyone.  Consumer preferences are a key driver of change and information is their lifeblood. That's why our world-leading digital initiatives are so important. Key parts of our future transport network will be underpinned by parking data, transforming the way we search, book and pay for parking. Connected and Autonomous vehicles (CAV) will help reduce congestion and harmful emissions and get people where they need to be quickly and safely.

The opportunities are immense and the BPA is leading the way on the appropriate use of data to create a better parking experience. Our collaboration with the Department for Transport, GeoPlace and Ordnance Survey is improving our understanding of Traffic Regulation Orders (TRO) and paving he way for smarter parking and connected vehicles. Working with our partners at the Alliance for Parking Data Standards (APDS) which we jointly own with the USA based International Parking & Mobility Institute (IPMI) and the European Parking Association (EPA), we are developing a world leading harmonised data standard for parking to enable vehicle manufacturers, parking technology providers and others to share parking data across platforms globally.

We support the Positive Parking Agenda, a local authority led initiative to build public confidence in the parking sector, change perceptions, challenge misconceptions and make the parking experience a better one for all concerned. We also work with many other organisations to campaign on issues including blue badge fraud and abuse, greater accessibility for disabled motorists, better management of hospital parking, and proper respect and treatment for those managing and delivering parking services. We hold a quarterly Parking Forum, often in Westminster and hosted by an MP and offer MPs the opportunity to write for our monthly magazine Parking News. 

We are always at the heart of a rapidly developing sector and in 2020 we celebrate 50 years as the leading association for the parking sector. Our focus on raising standards is helping our members deliver effective and efficient parking services across the UK.  

The BPA represents the UK parking and traffic management profession.
