The General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) came into effect on 25 May 2018 containing the most important change in data privacy law for twenty years.
GDPR has an impact on the capture, use and retention of personal data. It covers the same rights for individuals as the Data Protection Act but with some significant enhancements.

GDPR Preparation Events 2018
We have run five special events to give practical support to our members in both public and private sectors. Helping them ensure their policies and processes are compliant with the new regulations.
Richard Nevinson, Group Manager, Policy & Engagement at the ICO joined us at the London event on 15 March.
He highlighted the similarities and differences between the current Data Protection Act and GDPR, stressed the importance of this legislation, its affect on the parking profession and covered the key concepts for compliance with GDPR.
Derek Millard-Smith and Grace O’Driscoll from JMW Solicitors did a fantastic job of bring the subject to life with informative and engaging sessions covering what to do to prepare for GDPR.

GDPR can be a dry topic, but the JMW team kept the energy in the room high, delivering a quiz after lunch highlighting key points from the morning session (with prizes for the winners)

The event was very well organised; the content was engaging and highlighted important facts of the GDPR to bear in mind. The pack was full of useful information and I found it invaluable to help me with putting together the charity’s privacy policy. I am glad I have attended the event, I have learnt a huge amount and I am confident about the charity’s compliance with the new law now. Well done BPA for organising it -
Marta, Disabled Motoring UK
The GDPR event has been really good, really useful, given a comprehensive understanding. It is very good that is specific to parking, which is obviously going to help the authorities in the room but also the private organisations that work within our industry -
Kirsty, Parking Associates
GDPR event today will help us massively. It’s been brilliant. The sense of humour brought in with the children’s books has been absolutely fantastic. It’s been full of really, really helpful information -
