We believe that providing people working within the parking sector with the opportunity to gain professional qualifications is becoming ever-more important in recruiting and retaining people with the talent and determination to succeed. We also believe that what benefits individuals within the sector benefits the sector as a whole.

That’s why we continue to strive forward in the provision of nationally accredited qualifications which are fit for use across the sector and meet the skills gaps identified through ongoing research and feedback from the sector.

We now have a strong suite of qualifications available at an entry and operational level, and are now working towards those aimed at higher levels. A brief outline on the proposed projects and qualifications for the future is given on our Skills and IPP Board page.

Level 2 Award for Civil Enforcement Officers

Initially launched in 2005, and reviewed in 2008 in line with the traffic management act, this has proved a very much needed and desired qualification for all employees looking to enter the sector in this role.

The Benefits:

• Provides an excellent knowledge base for people working in Civil Enforcement
• Provides an understanding of conflict management
• Is used successfully as an induction, and most CEO’s will now have achieved the qualification before heading out on street
• Is assessed by multiple choice exam making it more accessible and less daunting to those who haven’t studied for a while

Level 2 BTEC Award for Vehicle Immobilisers

This qualification provides underpinning knowledge for those looking to work in the field of immobilisation. The achievement of this qualification is an essential element in gaining the Licence of Practice required by law for immobilisers in the private sector.

The Benefits:

• The qualification ensures all immobilisers work to best practice and covers elements like behaviour and customer skills as well as the more technical elements regarding devices and their application, the records required, and the practices and procedures which should be followed
• It is delivered in a primarily classroom environment, and assessed by multiple choice examination
• It enables operatives to apply for their licence to practice, raising the standards across the profession.

Level 3 Award for Notice Processors

This qualification only launched early this year and as a result has been subject to lots of publicity recently. However, it is long awaited and is expected to be a huge success among employers and employees alike.

The Benefits:

• This qualification provides underpinning knowledge of notice processing and information management within our sector in its first unit, which is then followed up by a second unit specialising in either activities relevant to public or private sector enforcement.
• It is assessed by two multiple choice examinations both taken online offering flexibility

Level 2 NVQ in Controlling Parking Areas

Whereas the previous two qualifications provide underpinning knowledge and are therefore ideal for those new to the sector, the NVQ in Controlling Parking Areas approaches parking skill by developing and recognising competence in real work situations.

The Benefits:

• The qualification has a choice of specialism’s making it ideal for a range of operational roles in parking, including car park attendants, CCTV enforcement, vehicle immobilisation and removal and civil enforcement.
• It is studied through the development of portfolios and at work assessments, meaning time away from the workplace is minimal
• It supports learning through recognising existing achievements.
• There is no examination

Level 3 NVQ in Business and Administration

To compliment the Notice Processing Vocationally Related Qualification (VRQ) which provides underpinning knowledge and is therefore ideal for those new to the Notice Processing role, the Level 3 NVQ in Business and Administration enhances parking skills by developing and recognising competence in real work situations.

The NVQ comprises a range of units covering generic administration and business functions and those specialising in administrative roles within the Parking Sector.

The Benefits:

• Builds on existing knowledge and confirms performance of skills & understanding
• The qualification has a choice of parking specific units making it the ideal way to tailor the qualification to fit the work role
• There is no examination, NVQs are studied through the compiling of evidence via portfolios and at work assessments, meaning time away from the workplace is minimal
