NEW GUIDANCE FROM FTA ON AVOIDING PCNs

A new guide on how to avoid penalty charge notices (PCNs) when delivering in London has been put together by FTA and Transport for London (TfL).

Though compiled by the FTA, most of the information in the Delivery Assessments guide is based on the experience of Westminster council supplier relationship manager, Hayley Regan.

Natalie Chapman, FTA head of policy for London, says Regan has spent a lot of time with companies delivering into London to assess their procedures and work out why they recieve so many PCNs.

"The aim is to give operators ideas about how to address their PCNs hotspots," says Chapman.

"Companies need to look at where they they are getting the most PCNs and give drivers guidance about where they can and cannot stop in that particular location. In some cases there may be nothing they can do, so we would suggest they talk to the local authority to get assistance."

Chapman is keen to update the guide with operators experiences in due course. "Any other first-hand knowledge would be very valuable," she says. Anyone wishing to contribute should email nchapman@fta.co.uk
