Equipment Manufacturers and Suppliers Special Interest Group

The EMS Group has been doing a significant amount of work during the last 12 months. The group is fully aware of the financial constraints being experienced by their customers and to assist with these tough times the group has been very active in putting forward and developing new ideas for their products and services in order to offer significant improvements to parking operations and controls for their customers and the general public.

The EMS Group believes that Local Authorities need to undertake much more proactive work to attract customers to Town Centres and other local shopping areas. The Group believes that well run and efficient car parks must play a greater role within the parking strategy and a vital factor in developing and maintaining a strong local economy. The Group also believe that car parks should be promoted as a key element for sustainable transport. To this aim, it is working with the BPA to develop ideas and guidelines to influence Local Authorities’ policies.

The EMS Group has been addressing a number of areas of interest to their members and their customers and we have been working on the following:

Public Tenders – Ways to reduce routine paperwork and unnecessary cost
Tender evaluation – Proper assessing of price and quality on “Best Value”
Improving out of hours security in car parks
Cashless payments – The road to contactless cards and consumer benefits
Parking Practice Notes – Pay on Foot & Phone Parking (launched 2009)
Parking Practice Notes – Pay and Display (coming soon)
Centralised monitoring and controls for multiple car parks
Improving customer service and operating cost
Overcoming the economic downturn
Parking Policy – Promoting parking provision, an essential element for Town Centres prosperity.
The problems caused by poorly controlled retail parking in town centres
The positive elements of retailers providing subsidised parking for customers in public car parks.
The benefits of residents parking cards

The members of the EMS Group are looking forward to meeting clients during Parkex and demonstrating the latest products and services now available.
