The Department of Justice (Northern Ireland)
has launched a consultation on future regulation of the private security
industry in Northern Ireland.
The Security Industry Authority (SIA)
currently regulates specified sectors of the private security industry in
Northern Ireland. Following the Public Bodies Review in 2010, the Coalition
Government announced that the SIA would no longer be a Non Departmental Public
Body and that there would be a transition to a new regulatory regime in England
and Wales.
The Justice Minister asked that a piece of
work be undertaken to develop options for the future regulation of the private
security industry here. This consultation forms part of the policy development.
The BPA is seeking to respond on
behalf of our members on this particular topic. If you operate services in
Northern Ireland and would like to provide your input, please send your
responses to Dave Smith
by13th July 2012. You are also encouraged to submit a response
independently.
