Structural safety and integrity in car parks is of paramount importance. Too many owners and operators do not have a life-care plan for their car parks and many do not even know what the term means or that it can apply to simple (retaining) structures in surface level car parks as well as large multi-storey buildings.
This simple guide and checklist, prepared by the BPA Structures and Asset Management Special Interest Group is intended to make it easier for everyone to get involved in proper and appropriate life-care planning.

Recommendations for the inspection, maintenace and management of car parks
A summary of the ICE National Steering Committee on 'Inspection and Maintenance of Multi-Storey Car Parks', published 2002. Car park structures are generally subjected to more severe environments than buildings and many have been subject to low standards of maintenance and repair.
The recommendations give guidance on good practice for car park owners, operators and their engineering advisors, and aim to assist in maintaining safe structures and cost-effective inspection and maintenance with minimum disruption.
