Centres of Excellence

Eight local authorities have been awarded funding (a share of £500,000) and the status of ‘Blue Badge Centre of Excellence’ (CoE) to promote and share good practice with other local authorities in their region. This will help improve consistency on the administration and enforcement of the current scheme.

The eight local authorities are:

  • Manchester and Bolton as joint CoE for North West England
  • Rotherham as CoE for Yorkshire and Humberside
  • Southampton as CoE for South East England
  • Birmingham and Coventry as joint CoE for the West Midlands
  • Wandsworth and Kensington and Chelsea as joint CoE for London.

 

Blue Badge Reform

Since Norman Baker’s announcement on the 14th February 2011 about reforming the Blue Badge Scheme, the Department for Transport released an invitation to tender for a supplier to develop and deliver the Blue Badge Improvement Service(BBIS). They are pleased to announce that Northgate Information Solutions, have won the contract in partnership with Payne Security who will print and supply the new badge design.

Newsletter update (August 2011)

Norman Baker MP has released a letter to Local Authority members providing updates since his announcement in February. The letter addresses updates regarding proposed key outcomes of the BBIS (Blue Badge Improvement Service), feedback from workshops which took place this summer,and the recommended steps to ensure the successful delivery of this business change. Local Transport Minister Norman Baker, has released a written statement addressing updates on the implementation of the Blue Badge reform programme that was announced in February 2011. In particular it addresses the Blue Badge Improvement Service.
